There is no spa or salon, but the reception desk may be able to recommend possibilities to you in ports. Activities are designed to highlight the areas through which you are sailing, including local musicians, demonstrations, minor theatrical performances, and games. Activities and lectures are as rich in history and culture as the ports themselves. Itinery was interesting, and land excursions were good. Can't wait to sail with American Cruise lines again. Smaller ships are SO much better than huge crowded ones.

On our sailing, most passengers seemed satisfied with their introduction to the South on American Splendor. About 40 percent of the people onboard our cruise signed up for another voyage with the line. So nice not to worry about preparing the next meal, like at home! I would have liked a "lunch bar" similar to the breakfast bar on Deck 4. That would have some MYO sandwich options or some small salads, or maybe a self-serve pot of soup. We boarded in New Orleans the afternoon prior to our day of departure, this included an excursion the next morning to the New Orleans WW2 Museum (Fantastic) Our room on board the ship was absolutely first class. We finished our cruise in Memphis, with a Graceland tour (the best) We will definitely be sailing with American Cruise Lines again, we cannot recommend them highly enough.

Attire is casual at all times, but you are free to dress up for cocktails, dinner and the evening show. Unlike large cruise liners, there are no formal nights on The Melody. There is no spa onboard, but most riverboats don’t offer such amenities. There are complimentary excursions at every port, or you can choose from inexpensive ($25-$45) tours. One of the biggest advantages of cruising with ACL is that all food and drinks (including almost unlimited alcohol) are included in the cost of the cruise. I found the ensemble of couches and upholstered chairs a perfect place to plop down for lectures or casual conversations with other passengers. The Independence was docked right in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor — in the very center of the action. We parked in a garage across the street, rolled our luggage one block to within site of the ship, and handed our bags to ACL crew members, who promised to deliver them to our stateroom pronto.
Chefs provision at each port and utilize local or regional ingredients as much as possible. So, this being a Chesapeake Bay cruise, the emphasis was on crab every which way, seafood, and fresh oysters. The bedding was plump, soft, and dreamy, almost impossible to emerge from in the dawn hour.
First cruise and had a great time with my sibling's October 2022. Well planned excursions and Bob the bus driver made the experience the best. He retired the end of October and will definitely be missed. Have told many people about this cruise and look forward to going on another American Cruise Lines adventure.
